​Pastel Techniques Series
This series of classes is designed to explore the technical aspects of pastels. The focus of each class will be on materials, techniques, design, subject matter and personal expression. I teach digitally through Zoom with a combination of various cameras and aps so that you get a full, real life experience. 
  • You may work from your own original photographs, still life set ups, drawings or your own imagination, or you may draw along with the instructor using the same reference photo. 
  • You may choose to take only one class or progress through all 8 classes in this series, since each class is totally unique with focus on each element of art. 
  • I have reduced the cost of the classes since you need to purchase your own supplies Please pay in advance by at least 48 hours through the Paypal links provided. Other payment methods are also available. If you are a member of my Patreon fan page and have received free classes, please let me know in advance. Once you have paid please call me at 757-879-9795 so that I can add you to the class. Once you have paid I will email you a verification code. You do not need to be a member of Zoom to participate.

Session One: Drawing with pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes tinted pastel paper:
You will apply pastel as a dry base by rubbing the pastel into yellow tinted Canson Mi-Tientes paper using fingers and paper You will then apply pastel over the base to create texture and value. Use your own photo or I can send you my photo and you can draw along with me to complete your masterpiece.
Class 1 you will also learn about tracing versus drawing in addition to the session focus, $20
Class 2, you will also learn about Space and perspective in addition to the session focus, $20

Session 2, Drawing with pastel over a watercolor painting 
I will show you how to create a simple watercolor painting using basic watercolor techniques. Pastel will be applied over the painting to create a highly textured finished drawing. Use your own photo or I can send you my photo and you can draw along with me to complete your work of art.
Class 1, you will also learn about color in addition to the session focus. $20
Class 2, You will also learn about texture and mark making in addition to the session focus, $20

Session 3, Drawing with pastel on textured homemade sanded board: 
You will apply gesso and tinted pastel ground on foam board to create a textural painterly base. Once the base is dry, you will use rubbing alcohol and pastel to create a base color. The drawing will be done on top of this textured surface to create a finished drawing with a loose painterly texture. Use your own photo or I can send you my photo and you can draw along with me to complete the example.

Session 4: Drawing animals on velour paper:
You will draw on velour paper using new techniques to create a soft effect of fur or hair. Use your own photo or I can send you my photo and you can draw along with me to complete the example above.
